The game play consists of competitions of street racing against rival crews. While the police pursuits can come into the scene at any time, regardless of the racing modes, it is ensured that the law is not too dominant. The game sees the return of many racing modes which were featured in the previous installments in the series. Drifting involves keeping control of the car. Sprint mode consists of point to point races whereas Circuit racing consists of the player completing a certain number of laps in a closed track.
