NASCAR ’14 includes the accurate tracks and the teams featured in the actual NASCAR event of the year 2014. The game play is designed in such a way that it requires practice to be done before running in an actual competition. The customization of the cars is also allowed in the game. These modifications include paint jobs. The online mode of the game allows up to 16 multiplayer competitors in a single game session. Customized games can also be created in the online version of the game. The physics engine used in 2014’s game is much more realistic than that of the previously used versions. The settings in the game are as such to allow one to transition the game play between arcade and simulation. As one moves towards the simulation, the game becomes tough to play with a heavily impacting physics model.

Developed to be more of a racing oriented game rather than a simulation one, NASCAR ’14 managed to stay true to the actual event.  Cautions, free passes and wave arounds, green-white checker finishes and double-file restarts. This game was the first one in the series to introduce group qualifying. In addition to this, the game was also the first one to feature control of the car in the restart zone where previously the control was gained after crossing the starting line. The smoke and debris effects were heightened in terms of quality with Eutechynx help from Nvidia. These smoke effects succeed in enhancing the crash replays during the session. Another addition seen for the first time in NASCAR ’14 is the formation of Online Leagues.

When not focused, the graphics used in the game appear to be satisfactory. The soundtrack of the game is generally based on rock genre. While NASCAR ’14 has its shortcomings, the game manages to stay as an honest representation of the official event. It also succeeds in being worth its price.
