The game follows arcade style racing. A number of modes are present in the content of the game. There is a Career mode which follows the journey of the player in becoming FlatOut Champion. 3 classes are showcased in the career mode. Demolition Derbies are also present in the game to cater to one’s destructive inclinations. A new addition to the game proves to be the ‘Carnage’ mode which is essentially a second career mode. It takes bits and pieces from the different modes and amalgamates them together. Time trials are also present in addition to other challenges which result in debris and destruction. Three car classes are featured in the game; namely race, derby, and street. Apart from the differing velocities, there is not any significant difference among these cars. Each car is rated in various categories like weight, speed, acceleration, and strength. The cars are customizable and can be upgraded with the use of new parts. Though, this customization is essentially at cosmetic level only. The lack of much difference in the feel of the cars leads to a sense of monotony experienced during the game play.
Solo mode is supported in Ultimate Carnage as well as the multiplayer mode. In the single player mode, up to 11 competitors are allowed in a single game session; all of which are computer generated. The multiplayer mode of the game can be played online only as there is no LAN support included in this game. The online game modes include Derbies, the new Deathmatch Demolition Derbies, Stunt races and the old-fashioned Head-on races. The Rag Doll physics used in the previous installment is seen to make a return in this one as well. This provides a thrilling and aerobatic show. This can be experienced in the 12 minigames which consist of Rag Doll events like High Jump, Stone Skipping, Ring of Fire, Field Goal and Free Kick among many others. The main aim of these stunts is to send the driver shooting along a trajectory.
The visual graphics of the game make it stand out in this field. The realistic 3D modeling of the cars and the interactive background and related paraphernalia add to the charm of the game. Featuring the basics of FlatOut 2, Ultimate Carnage enhances the experience which managed to please its audience. The destruction is very pronounced and elaborate in this game. If you have played the FlatOut games before, you are bound to love FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage. If you are new to the franchise, this game still won’t disappoint you.
