Developed by Codemasters, it is the twelfth installment in the famous Colin McRae Rally series and it is the sixth game in the series to carry the name ‘Dirt’. The game will support the platforms of Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It has been confirmed by Codemasters that the game will include PlayStation Pro support. Dirt 4 is also the official game of the FIA World RallyCross Championship. The game will however not feature any World Rally Championship car or anything related to it for that matter. Like previous games in the series, Dirt 4 will feature rallying. Players will have to compete on off-road tracks and tarmacs. The weather conditions in the game will also be variable. A wide range of cars will be featured in the game. These cars will be divided into certain classes and time periods. For example, the cars that are from the 90’s and 2000’s will be in the Group A and Group N and the 80’s cars will be showcased in the Group B. The car’s that belong to the 2010’s will be put in the Group R. The total number of the cars features would exceed 50 and would include famous cars like Ford Fiesta R5, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI and Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2. ‘Your Stage’ is a new feature which will make its debut in this game. This option allows the player to customize the Rally stages step by step. And so the player can create routes of basically all difficulty levels and lengths. Both the Rallycross supercars and the RX Lites will be included. The Landrush Mode will also be present in the game and will showcase buggy racing, crosskart vehicles and stadium trucks.

Dirt 4 will feature five locations for the players to cruise one. These are Michigan in the United States of America, Powys in Wales, Tarragona in Spain, Fitzroy in Australia and Varmland in Sweden. The tracks which were featured in the race calendar will also be featured in the game. These circuits include the Montalegre in Portugal, the Holjesbanan circuit in Sweden, the Lydden Hill Race Circuit in the Great Britain, the Lankebanen in Norway and the Loheac circuit in France. The Professional Co-drivers, Nicky Girst and Jen Horsey were hired to do the audio recording for the in-game commentary. These people will be the voices of the player’s co-driver and the game’s commentator. The game supports multiplayer mode and cross-platform leaderboards. For the PC version, Dirt 4 will include the Steam Workshop.
