The single player missions take place in Europe and provide the chance to experience the war through the eyes of a soldier from American side, the British side, and the Soviet side. These different missions cannot be chosen from and follow a linear order. There are not any monologues for these campaigns. The content in each of the campaigns is well written and does not prove to be just filler. The computer generated allies of the soldiers can be seen to do their part in the battle and this adds a sense of realism to the game play. A total of four difficulty settings are there in the game for the players to choose from. The health of the soldier can vary according to the impacts it has dealt with. The health can be replenished with Health Kits that are scattered in the game. These vary in nature and provide different effects in terms of health. In addition to the single player modes, there are a number of multiplayer missions available for one to choose from. These are called Behind Enemy Lines, Retrieval, Search and Destroy, Deathmatch, and Team Deathmatch. The multiplayer mode features an additional option called the ‘Kill Cam’ in which the deceased soldier gets a chance to see through the perspective of the killer the last few seconds before his death in the game.
The graphic used in the game are adequately moderate to behold. The game outshines others in terms of audio. With engaging game play and a thrilling simulation, one can almost experience the World War II itself through COD1.
